Egg: 1 medium
Flour: 120g self-raising
Honey: 1 table spoon
Milk: 150ml
Salt: 1/2 tea spoon
Vanilla Extract: 1/2 tea spoon
Maple Syrup: to serve
Olive Oil: for waffle maker(or melted butter)
Berries: mixed fresh (such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries)
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the self-raising flour, honey, salt, milk, egg and vanilla extract until well combined. A few lumps are fine.
Allow the batter to rest for 5 minutes. This resting time will help the gluten relax and result in fluffier waffles.
Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Once the waffle maker is hot, lightly grease it with olive oil or melted butter.
Pour the appropriate amount of batter onto the hot waffle maker, spreading it evenly. The amount will depend on the size of your waffle maker, so follow the manufacturer's guidelines.
Close the waffle maker and cook the waffle until golden and crisp. The cooking time will vary depending on your waffle maker, but it's typically around 2-5 minutes.
Carefully remove cooked waffle from the waffle maker using a spatula and place it on a wire rack to cool slightly. Avoid stacking the waffles on top of each other, as this can make them lose their crispness.
Repeat the process with the remaining batter until all the waffles are cooked.
Serve the classic waffles warm, topped with your favorite toppings such as maple syrup, fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
